Lance Childress is the current CEO and President of ASTAR, Inc. He has over 11 years of experience in the fields of pipeline operations, construction and inspection. In 2010, Childress began managing ASTAR and since that time, his specialties lie in compliance consulting and the training and evaluating of pipeline personnel for both operators and contractors. Childress is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Business. He is a certified evaluator for Veriforce, MEA, OQSG, and NCCER.
Chief Operating Officer
Tracy Messenger, Chief Operating Officer of ASTAR, Inc. carries over 27 years of experience in the fields of regulatory compliance, management, quality assurance, operations, and training. Messenger’s wealth of knowledge has been built from serving over 20 years in the United States Air Force as a Senior NCO. Messenger served from 1989-2009 in a range of positions including Senior Surveillance Inspector, Quality Assurance Inspector, and Safety Specialist, ensuring and enforcing DOD, DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations. In the years following, Messenger worked for almost 5 years with Veriforce operating as the Compliance Audit Manager. While at Veriforce, Messenger managed and performed Evaluator, OQ, and DOT drug and alcohol audits (49 CFR Parts 40 & 199). Messenger also provided OQ and drug and alcohol consulting to pipeline operators and contractors during this time. Messenger is a graduate of the American Military University, holding an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies, as well as an Associate Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the United States Air Force. Messenger is certified as an OQ Evaluator (Veriforce, NCCER, EWN, and MEA), a PEC SafeLand Instructor and an ITS and OQSG Proctor. Messenger has been with ASTAR, Inc. almost 4 years, focusing on general management of the company, as well as serving as a leader of the team in his position of Chief Operating Officer.

Cameron Speck is the current Vice President of Operations for ASTAR Central Division. Speck has acquired multiple years of experience in pipeline construction and maintenance within the oil and gas industry, as well as experience in workforce management and client account operations and advocacy. With a concentration on management, Speck graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While there, he enjoyed playing for the university golf team, which catapulted him into a career field within the sport. Eventually Speck decided to make the transition back into business and he accepted a position in early 2013 and has been a vital part of ASTAR, Inc. through many of its formative years. His current responsibilities include consulting on customer compliance, management of all Central Division evaluators, and conducting evaluations and safety training for both contractors and operators. He is a certified evaluator for Veriforce, MEA, OQSG, NCCER, ITS and a trainer for PEC Safeland/SafeGulf.
Jeremy Greer, serves as the VP of Operations for the Southern Region of ASTAR, Inc. Greer plays a valuable role in day to day operations, and has a vast knowledge of the fundamentals of the company. Greer’s experience in the industry began while serving 11 years in the United States Air Force. Greer served as an NCO, and in his time with the Air Force, performed surveillance inspections on munitions in accordance with DOD policies. He also gained valuable experience overseeing and enforcing DOD, DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations. Following his time of service, Greer worked almost 4 years with Veriforce as a Lead Compliance Auditor. Greer directed and performed Evaluator, OQ, and DOT drug and alcohol audits (49 CFR Parts 40 & 199). Greer graduated from Texas State Technical College and holds an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Greer is certified as an OQ Evaluator and Instructor, an OQSG Proctor, and with Veriforce, NCCER, EWN, ITS, eWebOQ, and MEA.
Jason Avant joined the ASTAR, Inc. team in June of 2015 and serves as the VP ofOperations for the Eastern Region. Avant has a multitude of experience in management, training, inspection, production, and pipeline evaluation. Avant’s expertise comes from an extensive career in welding inspection and pipeline operations supervision. Avant is currently studying business at Southern New Hampshire University. Avant is a Certified Welding Inspector, Evaluator and Proctor with Veriforce, MEA, ITS, and NCCER, and has had training in Butt Fusion and Electrofusion. In Avant’s current role, he manages client relations and ensures OQ compliance requirements, and oversees the general operations for the Eastern Region of ASTAR, Inc.
I was hired at Denbow Company as the Safety Manager, but was quickly tasked with managing our OQ program. I had no idea what an OQ program was or where to get started with our own program.
